By Jack Daniel Betz As Ramon so kindly reminded you all in this week’s preview, Big Star Bar will be visited by a representative from Corwood Industries this Sunday afternoon. I am speaking of none other than the least accessible musician in all of Houston music history, the arcane, abstruse, artist himself: Jandek. I felt compelled to write this little piece because I’ve run into an unbelievable amount of people my own age who have no idea who Jandek is. Feed SubscriptionIs there life after Summer Fest?
There most certainly is. On Friday, Houston will see whiny, emo, AP darlings, Hawthorne Heights at Warehouse. Make sure you get your tickets to that one early or those kids’ parents will first. A better choice however would probably be kickass multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Wesley at Dean’s Credit Clothing. Walter’s on Washington will also have a smorgasbord of local bands including B L A C K I E, Fat Tony, and Ghost Town Electric. On Saturday the dashing Young Mammals will be kicking off their tour with Eastern Sea and Buxton. But if you feeling like partying as if it were ... Read More »

Free Bowie, Garage Rock, and Indie-Pop at Walter’s
By Jack Betz I showed up last night at Walter’s to watch Benjamin Wesley only to find that I had the wrong night, but no matter, Mike told me that Roky Moon was playing an acoustic set with some T. Rex and David Bowie thrown in. He played some original songs along with “Raw Ramp” by T. Rex and “All the Young Dudes” by Bowie and it was very satisfying. Unfortunately his set was only about fifteen minutes long and I definitely wanted to hear some more. He’ll be playing with keyboard player Cassie Hargrove next week at Walter’s. Darwin’s ...
