This week the MFAH Hosts another of in its Mixed Media series. Yes, no longer is the Museum a stuffy place for people to quietly engage with artwork; no, it’s much hipper than that these days. Sure you can still get your Picasso on if you want but now it’s also a place where the clothing impaired (see right) can enjoy coctails, mingling, and live music. Imagine a club with much cleaner restrooms, a hella expensive insurance policy, and an almost magical ability to ward off the noise police.

The series has been very sucess from the beginning for good reason – the MFAH is a really neat space to hold these and most importantly it’s a lot of fun. This Friday, Cézanne, Matisse, Botticelli and the rest of the gang will host a party with the band most likely to eventually become a synonym for “fun” in Roget’s, Wild Moccassins. We thought we’d hit up a very busy Cody Swann with few quick questions about the event and he was able to give us a few brief replies in between his day job of restoring early 20th century Jesus frescos in Spain.

This is being sponsored by IKEA. Will you be incorporating any modular furniture into your performance?

Cody – We were told to show up a little earlier to help with the stage. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Speaking of IKEA… Sweedish Meatballs. Lindenberries or not?

Cody – Meatballs. Always.

So lets get to the show. Will you guys have anything special planned for the space?

Cody – Besides new songs we haven’t planned anything particularly special yet.

What else is going on at the event?

Cody – Orthy from Austin, TX will be performing as well as sets by DJ Ceeplus Bad Knives, DJ Josh Dupont, and DJ Mr. Castillo. The first 100 guests will receive party favors from designer Ali Rapp also.

How has it been working with the MFAH?

Cody – As of right now we have been talking with Eric Castillo (Ceeplus) regarding the show. We are just thankful MFAH were into the idea of having us play. I feel very lucky that they would share it with us. Hopefully we can tell them that this Friday.

Cody – Also what is your favorite piece of art at the MFAH?

I don’t have a favorite, but last time I was there the “Art of Exaggeration” exhibition really interested me. Basically anything by Rene Magritte, Francisco de Goya, or Kurt Seligmann.
