The Great Texas BBQ Festival just dropped their first wave of both competitors and BBQ vendors, and it is a thing of beauty. During the festival, “Godfather of BBQ” Johnny Trigg (Smoking Triggers) will be cooking alongside BBQ heavyweights like Ronnie Killen (Killen’s BBQ), Cheryl Marek (Still Smokin’) and Grant Pinkerton (Come and Eat it Cookers).
Johnny Trigg, a household name in the BBQ world, is a two-time Grand Champion of the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational. The living legend and celebrity chef has also appeared on TLC’s Pitmasters multiple times, earning rave reviews from the judges during each appearance. The Texas-native is often referred to as the “Godfather of BBQ” and the “New England Patriots of barbecuing,” which are both well-deserved titles considering his time in the game and skill at roasting meat to tasty perfection.
At the festival, Trigg will be working the pit alongside a killer roster of pitmasters, including Ronnie Wade (Blazin’ BBQ), Ronnie Killen (Killen’s BBQ), JD Henley (Buckshot BBQ), Todd Nelson (Double Barrel Cookers), Joey Smith (Joe’s Cookshack), Cheryl Marek (Still Smokin’), Andre Burns (Burn’s BBQ), Andrew Heckman (Honky Tonk Cookers), Bill Milroy (Texas Rib Rangers), Danny Hinojosa (Harris County General Store BBQ), Craig Sharry (Texas Pepper Jelly), Tony Tenace (Y-not Cookers), Willow Villarreal (Willow’s Texas BBQ), Coty Alambar (Lone Star Cue Crew), Terry Roan (Lone Star Cue Crew 2), Grant Pinkerton (Come and Eat it Cookers), and many, many more.
The Great Texas BBQ Festival will take place in Downtown Houston on April 21 and April 22 at Sam Houston Park. In addition to its killer roster of pitmasters (who will compete during the festival for a $20,000 cash prize), the festival will feature 15 Texas craft beers and performances (on two stages) by an all-star roster of 20 musical artists and bands, including the Suffers, Robert Earl Keen, Dawes, Morris Day and the Time, Lucero and Nikki Lane.
