With this new weekly series, my goal is to provide the reader with some insight on some of the tracks employees of not only Free Press Houston, but also Day For Night, most enjoy. As music is practically our livelihoods, it should be apparent that we tend to go through a lot of it. Though fitting in all of our favorite songs into a 15-track playlist is impossible, the restriction makes us pick some of our all-time favorites or the songs that we just can’t get out of our heads.

For the first installment, I decided to spotlight FPH Publisher and DFN Co-curator Omar Afra. Starting FPH in 2003 when he founded Free Press Houston, Afra set a goal to cover music in a different way than any other publication in town. In fact, under the “about” section on the website, FPH is referred to as a “a publication put out by artists and musicians.”

When I sent out the email to everyone informing them that this new series was something I wanted to begin, Omar was the first to send over a full list. Without further ado, I’m pleased to present the first playlist.

From Omar: “Look, TOOL does not have their music licensed on Spotify. So this list is pretty damn incomplete. That said, this is a short list of songs that make me happy and the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Little tiny shaved stubble that is. Enjoy.”
