What: ReelAbilities: Houston Film and Arts Festival

Where: Various venues (like HCC Southwest and the Edwards Grand Palace 24) from Thursday, February 11 through Thursday, February 18.

Why: ReelAbilities: Houston Film and Arts Festival, a free, city-wide festival that promotes inclusion and celebrates the lives, stories, and talents of people with disabilities, will screen 12 films along with other art related events. Guest need to register for their free tickets on the ReelAbilities website. Parking at the Grand Palace garage is also free.ree322

ReelArt: The Art of Celebration Exhibit - On going through Feb. 20 (at Nicole Longnecker Gallery)

* Features works on canvas, paper, and photography from Houston’s Celebration Company artists. The group is composed of 20 adults with disabilities who create art as an expressive outlet for both a leisure activity and a life skill. The full program focuses on personalized development to improve skills in the core areas of vocation, academics, wellness and socialization. The artwork and photography at the exhibit are available for public and corporate collections.

UPAbilities: Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. (at HCC Southwest)

* Featuring extraordinary thought leaders on diversity and inclusion. Speakers include: Winter X Games Snowboarder Kevin Pearce (Topic: Surviving and Thriving: Life after the Crash), British Psychology Researcher Eleanor Longden (Topic: Learning from the Voices in My Head) and America’s Got Talent finalist Drew Lynch (Topic: Embrace Life Event When it Throws You a Curveball).

Sunday, Feb. 14, Opening Night (at HCC Southwest)

6:30 p.m. Opening Reception, featuring a display of sweet confections

7 p.m. All You Need is ReelLove: Keep the Change and Mimi and Dona
