This Week’s Featured Show

Saturday July 30
Roky Moon & BOLT! (album release)

Tax the Wolf
Fat Tony
Young Girls
JW Americana
@ Fitzgerald’s

Good Gravy, as if Roky Moon and Bolt headlining to celebrate their new album isn’t enough then they have to throw together this insane line up of bands?  That’s just overkill if you ask me!!!  Oh and if you missed our interview with Roky Moon and Bolt’s Mike Hardin earlier this week, you should check it out here.

Thursday, July 28

Handsome Ransom, Brent Nettle, AThousandColours, The Fox Derby @ The Mink - I can’t find much information on Handsome Ransom but it apparently it’s a Venture Brothers episode.  That was a pretty cool cartoon.

Not In The Face, The Wheel Workers, The Dead Revolt @ Fitzgerald’s - Austin’s Not in the Face may do the blues/garage duo thing but they do it with enough panache to kick some mighty ass.

Star & Micey, No Singing No Dancing, Pedro Tijerina @ La Carafe - Star and Micey’s folky stuff has a certain sweetness that can get people in public transit.  If you don’t believe me, check out their episode of Hotel Memphis on You Tube

Friday, July 29

Holy Fiction, Quiet Company, Castle Lights, Sara Van Buskirk @ Warehouse Live (Studio) - Holy Fiction’s melodic and warm sound is actually really intriguing and almost too pretty for its own good.

The Squishees, Ghost Town Electric, Dead Mineral @ Rudyard’s - Spazz Rock Gods the Squishees are back?  Hell yes!

Second Lovers, Johnny Strat, Tame Blonde, Handsome Ransom @ Fitzgerald’s - Second Lovers does some sweethearted Americana.

Eric Dick for City Council Benefit, BBQ, featuring The Good, Bad and Ugly @ S.P.J.S.T. Lodge (1435 Beall; 7-11PM) - I really could give two shits about politics but I kind of think it’s funny that someone is trying to put a Dick in City Hall.

Blasphemer,Cerebral Effusion, Disfigured, Uncleansed, Venomous Supremacy @ Walter’s - Holy Crap,  Blasphemer just ripped out my skull and crushed it into powder with its unrelenting metal!

Rahsaan Patterson @ Undeground Live (ex-Groundhall) - Former Kinds Inc. child actor who moved on to pen songs for Brandy back in the 90s and doin’ his own Neo-Soul thing since then too.

Hadden Sayers @ McGonigel’s Mucky Duck (evening) / Cactus Music (5PM) - Bluesy Bro from Sweetwater Texas drops into Cactus for a freebie and Mucky Duck for the people who like to sleep way late.

A Tribute to Gary Floater, featuring Owen Temple & Adam Carroll @ Heights Live! - Sadly, Gary Floater is not real but the weirdo country legend brain child of Temple and Carroll.  Check out the Floater website it’s weird in a very amusing way.

Kelly Rowland, Jeremiah @ Arena Theater - Hey remember Destiny’s Child?  Maybe just maybe you remember them.  Rowland was in that group along with a little know singer Beyonce who we really thought was going to go places.

Katy Perry, Robyn, DJ Skeet Skeet @ Toyota Center - You may recall Perry from Sesame Street where her all too steamy scene with Elmo almost got the muppet dismissed by PBS.

The Wagoneers, Mike Stinson, Allen Oldies Band @ The Continental Club - Austin’s old Honkey Tonkers The Wagoneers have reunited with the original line-up and that’s just good groceries for everyone.

Tha Comradz, REIGN, Ill Will, Bumbino, Mutt aka Wolf @ Super Happy Fun Land - Damn one of the members of The Comradz took the name B.A.?  Dude it takes some balls to take Mr. T’s moniker in the A-Team.

Saturday, July 30

Skate & Rock, featuring Darwin’s Finches, Anarchitex, & Something Fierce @ Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark - great location and great bands. What more could you ask for?

YOB, Dark Castle, Omotai @ The Mink - Crap Omotai is reason enough to go to this show but YOB is pretty pounding brutality as well!!!

Julydoscope: A Kaleidoscope of Art, Music, Dance and Film, featuring Talento Bilingue de Houston & Compania Folklorica Alegria Mexicana, Musiqa featuring Chris Becker, Suchu Dance, Avantica Academy of Odissi Dance, Tyagaraja, & more @ Discovery Green (4-10PM) - Lots of dance plus Jonathan Tyagaraja Welch will play some ear splitting doom metal…or not.

Finnegan @ Cactus Music (1PM) - Finnegan is one of those bands that you can’t help but like. Melodic, nice harmonies, and varied instrumentation.  Good stuff.

Texas Harmonica Festival, featuring Sonny Boy Terry, Greg Izor, Ronnie Shellist, Tommy Dardar, Texas Johnny Boy, & Stephen “Fess” Schneider @ Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar - Harmonica Blowers UNITE!

Sisters Morales (final show!) @ McGonigel’s Mucky Duck - The long-running sister team gives fans one last show before they move onto focus on their solo careers.  I suspect this will not be a “final” final but just a long break.

Robert Ellis @ Cactus Music (3PM) - Local have guitar, will travel axe man Ellis plays Cactus.  His new album is pretty awesome too.  Make sure to grab a copy.

Summer Live, featuring Kyle Hubbard, Mike Ro, Domino, J Hurdy, Twenty Eleven, SQWA PRO, Renzo, & more @ Stars Sportsbar & Grill - Rap and Sports Bar like peas in a pod!

Full Metal FDot Hip-Hop Showcase, featuring Montana & Jack Freeman, DJ Lee Lonn, FullMetal FDot, & Bandtastic Four @ Bohemeos - If driving to Katy, TX is too far for you Bohemeos also has some Hip Hop for yu inner loopers.

Kim Lenz, Christian Serpas, Ghost Town @ The Continental Club - Kim Lenz is rockabilly goodness and kudos to her art department, that’s some awesome looking retro album covers.

Sunday, July 31

Sphynx, Native America, The Live Lights, Searching for Signal @ The Mink - Austin Indie Pop headlines.
H-Town Sneaker Summit @ Toyota Center - Dunno, it’s go sneakers and Bun-B has some kind of after-party associated with this I think.  Good enough for me.

Monday, August 1

They Who Sound featuring Scott Ayers/ Ryan Edwards and Sandy Ewen/ Lucas Gorham @ Avant Garden - Celebrated Anarchitex/Pain Teens guitarist Scott Ayers leads the pack this week.

Gus & Call @ Super Happy Fun Land - Nice Americana from Omaha worth a listen.

Tuesday, August 2

He’s My Brother She’s My Sister/Cowboy & Indian @ Fitzgerald’s - Cute LA Indie-Pop Brother/Sister Duo headlines.

Ke$ha, LMFAO, Spank Rock @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Meh, whatever.

Wednesday, August 3

Arctic Monkeys, Young Buffalo @ House of Blues - I remember when these guys were the new thing a few years back.

Driftwood Singers, REDvsBLACK, Dipper @ Super Happy Fun Land - If you know what is meant by “No Depression” then you know exactly what Driftwood Singers sound like.
