It’s hard to impart old lessons on newer generations. Experience is always the best method of teaching as opposed to stuffy documentaries and dusty textbooks. Local non for profit group Writers in the schools (WITS) will be helping teach the importance of the civil rights movement to young Houstonians through poetry and prose at The Watchful Eye.

Participating students will write pieces inspired by the Civil Right exhibit, The Whole World Was Watching and recite them at 7 p.m. May 19 at The Menil. The event will also be put on with help from “Freedom Now! Houston retraces The Civil Rights Movement”.
