As our readers, you already know that human trafficking is a BIG issue in our city. Mayor Annise Parker has a campaign in the early stages and now the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work is hosting a screening of Slavery Out of the Shadows: Spotlight on Human Trafficking. Following the screening there will be a panel discussions with Houston area anti-trafficking organizations, local law enforcement and Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia and an onsite marketplace of fair-trade businesses and anti-trfficking organizations will be be available throughout the event.

The film was produced by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and highlights the extent of modern day slavery in the Houston area, which we all low is a hub due to our proximity to the coast and Mexico.
Houstonians need to be aware. Houstonians need to say that this is NOT okay. Houstonians need to take action. Get educated, make your voice heard, save these people. It may not directly affect you, but a human life is a human life. Everyone deserves freedom, everyone deserves to choose their own destiny. Help these people build their own path in life.
