I Can Do Anything!
Curated by Sarah Gish
With Performance by GRCH Camper All-Star Band

Aurora Picture Show, 2442 Bartlett Street
(7PM Free RSVP Kindly Requested)

A couple weeks back we felt kind of bad when the Girls Rock Camp Houston Showcase had the bad luck to be scheduled the same week as the Houston Press Music Awards thus missing out on our featuring the show on our weekly round-up. Still a lot of folks headed out to the catch the young ladies rock out and, by all accounts, it was quite a success and everyone is looking forward to next year’s camp. If you were one of the folks who didn’t get to see the ladies rock, you will get a second chance as they will be performing tonight before a screening of shorts celebrating kinds at the Aurora Picture Show which we think sound pretty neat.

The films being shown include

  • Hip Hop Scotchby Maureen McNamara (“An animated short film of a mother singing ‘Que Sera, Sera’ to her daughter”)
  • Love Bug by Kat Candler (“nine-year old Turtle Thompson thinks his bug loving best friend Maddy is the coolest girl in the whole wide world- if only he had the guts to ask her to the Spring Fling Dance”)
  • Growing Dreamsby Jane Churchill and Gwynne Basen (“kids transform bare pavement into dream schoolyards”)
  • Marvinby Mark Nute (“a kid who loses his common sense through a hole in his head”)
  • Matthew Doing Weather by Matthew Buchannen ( “a visit to the Weather Museum”)
  • I Can Make Art…Like Emily Carr by Jane Churchill – kids examine Carr’s unusual world
  • Roberto, The Insect Architect by Nina Laden – Roberto isn’t like the other termites – he likes to build with wood, not eat it.
