bcfe0b9d3a98f66d7bThe Oscar Nominated Documentary Shorts playing this weekend at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will conjure words like heartbreaking, and even harrowing when you reflect back on the subjects. Definitely some serious and adventurous movie going awaits viewers.

King’s Point explores the denizens of a retirement community in Florida. Inocente is the name of a teen femme at a prestigious high school in New York City who shows great promise as a fine artist and is also homeless. Mondays at Racine focuses on a hair salon that gives free treatment to women suffering from cancer. Redemption concerns people who scavenge on the streets of New York. Open Heart deals with the reality of young African children being treated for heart disease.

Some of the imagery on display includes shots of open heart surgery or the aftermath of a mastectomy. This is strong stuff but points are made and a direct connection to the subject is assured. The shorts combine for a total running time of around 200 minutes. Showtimes are February 9, 10, and 16, all at 1 pm.
