This week Christmas comes early for Noize fans (courtesy of Sandy Ewen) as Black Leather Jesus performs this weekend at Fresh Arts ARC. Noisemaker Richard Ramirez has been behind BLJ since 1989 and despite being what many would consider a fringe subset of music (and some would even argue against it even being music) he has managed to receive quite a bit of notice and acclaim among music freaks. Thurston Moore (you may have heard of him from a band by the name of Sonic Youth) picked BLJ to open up at a show in Marfa a few years back and he has collaborated with folks like Merzbow, Emil Beaulieau, Skin Crime, and MSBR. With a focus on violent sexual themes (usually centered around gay porn), murder, sadomasochism, and so on, it’s not exactly for everyone but if are one of those people who have never gone to seen a noize show, this may be a good one to start off with. You may find you enjoy it or you may not, but certainly it would be far removed from any pop concert you’ve ever attended. Here, just take a look at this performance clip below – kind of looks like an outtake from some messed-up Antonini or Pasolini film, don’t it?.
