Weird Party is nothing but a big pile of sweaty, audacious, ready-to-scrap Rock and Roll. Etched in their new 7” is all the snot, spit, and fire of the finest punk. Live, …

This Week’s Featured Shows
Album Releases Galore at Fitz!!!!

Thursday  June 30
Chase Hamblin (tour kickoff!),
Nathan Quick
(CD release)-
Local Pop Psychedelian Chase Hamblin kicks- off a tour and a CD release for Nathan Quick whose music seems to dip into the same sixties era.  What’s the line from Evil Dead?  Oh yeah…Groovy!

Friday July 01
(CD release),
The Energy,
Black Congress,
The Delta Block  -
This is actually the second record release (the first was at Cactus a few weeks back) but this one has the added bonus of a stellar line up.

Sunday, July 3
The Wrong Ones (LP release)
Hell City Kings
Secret Prostitutes
- You know the routine for Cutthroat records.  They put out straight-up no-frills rock and roll filled with punk snottiness and testosterone attitude.  The Wrong Ones fit nicely into that stable but they do so with a sneer that would make John Lydon proud.

Wednesday, July 6
Robert Ellis (album release),
Jonny Corndawg,
Khruang Bin
- Man Houston has some amazing players and Ellis is right up along with the best of them at the top of the mountain.

Thursday, June 30

Scott H. Biram @ The Continental Club - Rootsy “Dirty Old One Man Band” Scott Biram looks like he’s seen his share of truck stops in his day and his music has that same feel.

Houston Press 2011 Houston Web Awards, featuring Fat Tony @ Momentum Audi (2315 Richmond; 7-10PM) - Dunno what to make of this but it’s got Fat Tony so it’s a party.

S.P.E.A.K. VI, featuring Michael “5000″ Watts, BMC, Doughbeezy, iLL LiaD, & T2 “The Ghetto Hippie” @ Mango’s - Oh Sheeeit with Swishahouse’s Michael “5000″ Watts leading the charge,  this is gonna be sweet!

Downtown Brown, Muzak, Loch Ness Radio @ Super Happy Fun Land - There is only one word you need to know and that is Muzak, -  John Muzak to be exact.

Friday July  1

Grand Child, The Beta Rhythm, Paris Falls, Psychic Palms @ The Mink - Folky, pretty, and melodic is how I would describe Grand Child’s music.  If that sounds like good indie pop to you you should give ‘em a listen.  Paris Falls is also good business and worth checking out.

RX Bandits (farewell tour), Happy Body Slow Brain, Zechs Marquise, Maps & Atlases @ Fitzgerald’s - After 16 years the Seal Beach, California Vans Warp Tour veterans hit the road one last time.

Jimmy LaFave @ McGonigel’s Mucky Duck - Red Dirt Okie Folkie from Austin.

Shake Russell Trio @ Anderson Fair - Long time local folkie at Anderson.

Saturday, July 2

David Bazan + Band, Rocky Votolato @ Fitzgerald’s - Bazan’s been doing the solo thing for a while but you likely remember his also as the main creative force behind Pedro The Lion and The  Headphones.

The Hangouts, Only Beast, Black Cock, Busy Kids @ Rudyard’s - College Station MRR / Thrasher punks, The Hangouts, play with with Austin’s Black Cock.  Insert joke here.

Ricky Stein and the Warm Guns, Miss Leslie & Her Juke-Jointers @ The Continental Club - I just want to say that Miss Leslie kicks ass!  I don’t even have to talk about the headliner as she sells the show by herself.

Cute Scenarios, Sick, Sea , The Julys @ The Mink - There is something  charming about Cute Scenarios low rent instrumental music. Just sayin’.

Carolyn Wonderland @ Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar - Houston Ex-pat blues guitar class-act Carolyn Wonderland returns to scrap it up at Dan Electro’s.

All of the Lights @ Warehouse Live - Their facebook says their genre is “music for watering plants”.  That’s actually quite a good description for these shoegazers.

Thunderpants, Boys Don’t Cry, Sunsett Stripperz @ House of Blues - Apparently there was a 2002 film called Thunderpants  about a flatulent child who gets to be an astronaut.  I really don’t know what I could possibly add to that…

The Music of the Eagles, featuring the Houston Symphony @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Wow, Just effing wow.  You studied your instrument for years and THIS is what it got you?

Mana (Saturday and Sunday July 2-3)  @ Toyota Center - Two nights? Apparently these guys are a big deal for Rock En Español.

Tape Deck Mountain, The Live Lights,  Young Savage @ The Mink - San Diego’s Tape Deck Mountain are noisy brash distorted and well worth checking out.

Monday, July 4

Freedom Over Texas, featuring Jack Ingram, Chris Young, Rodney Atkins, & more @ Eleanor Tinsley Park (free w/canned good) - Let’s face it the music at this thing every year blows but whatevs - they have fireworks!!!

SHFL BBQ, featuring Fight a Scary Dog, Beans, & Downer @ Super Happy Fun Land - Don’t want to deal with the throng of sweaty drunks listening to music you could care less for?  hen Superhappy may be your alternative.

Wednesday, July 6

Steve Earle & the Dukes, Allison Moorer @ House of Blues - Point of fact: Steve Earle is an effing bad-ass.

Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Chevy Woods @ Reliant Arena - Ya know you have to give it up to Pittsburg’s Wiz Khalifa.  It takes balls to sample something as awful as “Maniac” from Flashdance and get away with it.

Griefhound @ Super Happy Fun Land - Effing heavy ass shit. Like these guys listened to a lot of Sleep under a cloud of weed.

The Hangouts show at Rudz on Saturday is a kind of 7″ release show for them on Cutthroat Records. They have not played Houston since the 7″ came out and I will be there selling 7″s for cheap that night.
