This week Nameless Sound and They, Who Sound (stepping out of its Avant Garden home base) bring us a double shot of Jazz Pianist Marilyn Crispell. Those of you who follow Jazz are likely already familiar with her work. For those of you not familiar with her work I suggest a quick glance at her resume over the decades which includes her stint as a member of Anthony Braxton’s Quartet, the Reggie Workman Ensemble, Barry Guy’s New Orchestra, the Henry Grimes Trio, the Europea Quartet Noir, and Anders Jormin’s BortomQuintet. She’s also worked with composers such as composers John Cage, Pauline Oliveros, Robert Cogan, Pozzi Escot, Manfred Niehaus and Anthony Davis. Phew, and that little quick skip through her Wikipedia entry [1] only scratches the surface but sometimes it’s better to let folks hear the music rather than to try to convey why her work is so impressive so here is a solo performance of John Coltrane’s”Dear Lord”, another of her with David Rothenberg, and one last one of her performing in the Anthony Braxton Quartet to do the explaining for me.

Blondes Make Better Victims, 23 Shades @ The Mink - Maybe you are right but I’d hope they’d make better bands! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Hounds of Jezebel, VerseCity, The Trends @ Fitzgerald’s - Sometimes a band’s bio is best read in “Serious Actor” mode and HOJ has a pretty good one for that. Here, try reading this all dramatic like (remember to add lots of heady pauses) , “it’s their chemistry, even having only been together for a short time, that draws you to them. Their ability to connect. To Play. To Rock. Is the undeniable……Hounds of Jezebel.” Where is William Shatner when you need him?
Wolfgang Gartner @ House of Blues - House DJ at the House of Blues
Michael Fracasso @ Heights Live! ($12) - Austin singer songwriter. What? You were expecting Deicide?

Silence on Hold, Soup, Only Beast, Journey Agents @ Fitzgerald’s -Silence on Hold umm well they don’t have much in the way of a facebook page and the website linked on that page is a google calendar, so your guess is as good as mine.
