You know there is an old superstition that says that whatever you are doing on New Year’s Eve will reflect what the New Year will bring. If that’s the case, this show should guarantee a pretty bad-ass 2012. It’s a local line-up so solid that even Superman’s X-Ray vision couldn’t cut through it.  I mean you have everything you could possibly want - Americana, Rap, some heavy shit, some bedroom pop, some punky olds, some solid DJ skilz, and more…but the best part of it all is it’s free!  That’s right, free!  How’s that for a holiday cheer stimulus package?!  With a party this good, I better not catch you watchin’ Dick Clark bring down the ball on ABC!  I swear I’ll smack ya good and hard if I do.

Thursday, December 29

Project Grimm, Clouded, Dead Mineral @ Rudyard’s - Rock like it’s the Houston Indie 90’s with a reunited Project Grimm and Clouded.  Instrumental awesomeness by Dead Mineral opening.

Caddywhompus @ Fitzgerald’s -Houston expat bad-asses drop in for the holidays. Yeahyus!

Sedition Books Benefit Puppet Show, featuring Equiliberation @ Super Happy Fun Land (8PM) - Puppets are awesome!!

Backspace, Different Beast @ Fitzgerald’s -Backspace?  What, was fdsk or control-open apple-P-R taken?

The Mastersons @ McGonigel’s Mucky Duck - Texas raised musical couple now making fine Americana folk out of Brooklyn, NY.

The Gourds @ The Continental Club - Yes yes their version of Gin and Juice is played out but don’t let that novelty color your appreciation for one of this state’s finest bands.

Friday, December 30

Quintron & Miss Pussycat, The Wiggins, Psychic Palms, GWizz @ Fitzgerald’s - Meh, Quintron.  I was a big fan until Miss Pussycat kind of ruined it for me a few years ago while on assignment.  That said, this is a solid bill and should be a lot of fun for the rest of you.

Reggae Rhythm Revival, featuring D.R.U.M., Bigga Star, & Jimmy Lee Deen @ Last Concert Cafe - Reggae, yo!

Lupus Foundation Fundraiser, featuring Good Timing, Exit 747, & David Deidrich @ Jet Lounge - End of year fundraiser at the Jet Lounge.

Kirko Bangz, MC Beezy, Rai P, Yung Chop, DJ Black D., Ko Boggy @ Fitzgerald’s -I don’t think I could ever put it as eloquently as solochiik did on the Kirko Bangz’s youtube when she wrote, “HW CANT YALL NOT IKE DISZ?   DISZ MY SHIIT MY BOO-THAN FUK DHA DISZ MY SHIT ITS MY RINGTONE”.

Branes, TENSE, Black Leather Jesus @ Walter’s (1120 Naylor) - Thenew Walter’s is kind of neat.  If you missed the grand opening, this show featuring LA based synth punk Branes along with two must-see locals may be a nice way to introduce yourself to Pam’s new digs.

Hayes Carll, Shovels & Rope @ House of Blues -Local favorite Hayes Carll had one of the best albums of 2011.  If you still haven’t heard him, I suggest you do so right quick.

Come See My Dead Person (live recording), Renee Gayo, Kevin Anderson, Chris Denny @ Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe (Galveston) - CSMD is being allowed to wreak their havoc on Galveston?  The foolish islanders, have the no idea what forces they are playing with?

Saturday, December 31

NYN8: New Year’s Noise, featuring Bryce Eiman, The Annoysters, Gmilf Defibrillator, The Illegal Wiretaps, Ascites, The Whitehorse, Knife of Ice, Respirator, Muzak, Black Magic Marker, Voidstorm, & Glasgow Smile @ Super Happy Fun Land -If you want your New years to kick off with an awesome dose of the weirdsies, this is your show!

Joint Chiefs, Lick Lick, Cheek@ Rudyard’s -Another Blast from Houston’s past.  Joint Chiefs reunion with the lovable neurotic fun of Austin’s Lick Lick.

New Year’s Eve 2011, featuring Matt the Electrician, Wendy Colonna, Ken Gaines, Wayne Wilkerson, & Bill Cade @ Anderson Fair - for a more folky NYE.

No Cover New Year’s Eve, featuring The Allen Oldies Band & The Suspects @ The Continental Club  - For the recession minded NYE reveler who still wants some good tunes.

4th Annual New Year’s Eve Ball, featuring Richard Vission, DJ Riddler, Sean Carnahan & Surain, Wes Walz, Tager n Funk, GRRRL Parts, Bjorn Larsen, Chris Calix, JC Vanegas, Brian Stovall, Vance Lawrence, Tony Santana, Blake Silverstein, & Lawrence & Celauro @ Stereo Live - I hope you brought your dancing shoes.

Shake Russell @ McGonigel’s Mucky Duck -Close out your 2011 and ring in 2012 with a classic Houston folkie.

Young Jeezy @ Reliant Arena -Remember the film classic “Janky Promoters?”   Jeezy was robbed of an Oscar!!!!

Mint Condition, Tony! Toni! Tone! @ Arena Theater - If you are old enough to remember Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis then Mint Condition might ring a bell while  Tony! Toni! Tone! would be for you 90’s R&B folks.

New Year’s Eve Celebration, featuring The Village People @ Nutty Jerry’s (Winnie) - Wow, just…Wow!  And I mean that in the best possible way.

Sunday, January 1

Fitzgerald’s New Year’s Day Bonanzarama, featuring Los Skarnales, Woozyhelmet, Brandon West, iLL LiaD, Damon Allen, B L A C K I E, Young Girls, Rivers, The Mighty Orq, Bang Bangz, Mantis, & DJ Meshak @ Fitzgerald’s (5-8PM) -For those of you for whom the New years Eve bash at Fitz isn’t enough, Fitz has a second day of insanity.

The 15th Annual Townes Van Zandt Wake @ The Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe (Galveston) - Not many shows after new years eve but this one may be a good way to kick off the year.
