Record Store Day

This shit is going to be going down all around Houston. All Records, Sound Waves, Sound Revolutions, Sound Exchange all will all be carrying RSD special releases. Hell, Chuck Roast will even be bringing out his rare punk collection at Vinyl Edge while Music Depot will have Rick Ross doing a signing. All pretty cool but mad props go to…

     Cactus Music

Cactus really knows how to roll throw a hootenanny.  They will have The Wild Moccasins, Robert Ellis, Buxton, & Free Energy for free from 2-5PM. That’s just nuts!  Look, sure it’s gonna be a zoo of people so, if you hate crowds, then just stay away but for those of you who don’t mind a place loaded to maximum capacity for the sake of some awesome bands, then I highly recommend you go.

OK now for the rest of the week..

Thursday, April 14

Dokken @ Numbers – NO!

Rebirth Brass Band @ Warehouse Live (Studio) – Tremé’s Funky Funky Brass Band has been at it for nearly 30 years. You should check them out live to see why.

Scared To Dance, featuring Mr. Castillo & Hit it or quit it! @ The Mink  – Dance you fool!

Friday, April 15

The Music of Led Zeppelin: A Rock Symphony, featuring Houston Symphony, Brent Havens, & Randy Jackson @ Jones Hall – NO! NO! FUCK NO!

David Bazan @ Brandon’s house  – Former Pedro The Lion main man plays…someone’s house? Cool.

Fake Problems, Laura Stevenson and the Cans, Pomegranates, Now, Now @ Fitzgerald’s – Remember when Fake Problems went on tour with our own O Pioneers!!! And got their gear stolen and they had play the rest of the tour using O Pioneers!!!’s gear? Yeah, that’s how we Houston folk roll.

Sleeping In The Aviary, Clockpole, Moths, PAPAYA, Art Institute @ The Mink – I really need to check out the new SITA album. I really dug their last one a lot.

General Bye Bye, Megafauna @ Mango’s – If you like weirdsies French indie pop, General Bye Bye may be your bag.

Fistful of Soul @ The Mink –If you didn’t get enough dancing yesterday here’s your second shot.

Sideshow Tramps @ Heights Live! (240 W. 18th St.) –The tramps are hands down one of the best live experiences you can have in Houston. Nuff said.

Ted Nugent @ Nutty Jerry’s (Winnie) –NO! NO INFINITY PLUS ONE! Ted Nugent makes me hate 70’s rock. Cat Scratch Fever! WEAK!

Saturday, April 16

Brokencyde, Dot Dot Curve, Vampires Everywhere, IT Boys @ Numbers (5PM) – NOOOOO! Gawd, remember a while back when we were making fun of that shitty Brokencyde video on HUH? Yeah, it still sucks.

Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Travis Barker, Mix Master Mike @ Toyota Center – Yes, nerd haters, Lil’ Wayne was a straight A student.

Violence of Humanity, Guerrilla Piss, Nintendra, Garage Dump @ The Ponderosa (1503 Nance 9pm) - A crushing Gulf Coast Hardcore extraveganza and a mere $3 at that!

Born Liars,Talk Sick Brats, Disfrutalo @ Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark – Garge and skateboards. Sweet!

The Small Sounds,Trey Brown & Mission Dorado @ Fitzgerald’s– The always pleasant Small Sounds will likely be a little more low key than the skate park show.

EP Release Party, featuring Saxton Fox, Jody Seabody and the Whirls, Clockpole, The Escatones, Darwin’s Finches, & Les Naturistes @ Super Happy Fun Land – Not sure whose EP release party is it…but who the hell cares about such small details – it’s SHFL.

A dream Asleep/Skeleton Dick/The Ballistics/The Nothing/B.F.I. @ Mango’s - ADA will be dropping some pretty good heavy at Mango’s.

Get Down @ The Big Top, featuring Ceeplus Bad Knives, Mr. Castillo, I.P. Freely, & Ryan Wicker @ The Big Top – DJ’s dancing…really there’s nothing more to add.

Underworld, featuring cEvin Key (ex-Skinny Puppy), DJ Mina, DJ vvJames, The Dead Bang, DJ Mirage, DJ Ms. Fluzee, & DJ Franki Fiend @ Numbers – Ibid.

Sunday, April 17

They Who Sound featuring Bhob Rainey, Ryan Edwards, Emmanuel Guajardo, Thomas Helton, Damon Smith, and Melanie Jamison @ Avant Garden (7-9pm) – Houston’s finest weekly imrpov series. Highly recommended.

Tuesday, April 19

Foals, Freelance Whales, The Naked and Famous @ Fitzgerald’s– Well have an interview with Judah Dadone of Freelance Whales coming up next week. Really nice stuff.

Johnny Falstaff @ Fitzgerald’s– If indie pop isn’t your speed then the “Honky Tonk Daddy” may be what ya need.

Wednesday, April 20

Devin the Dude, Coughee Brothaz @ Warehouse Live (Studio) – Stoner demi-god, Devin the Dude remains one of Houston’s best exports.

Venomous Maximus, The Burden (LP release), Night Siege, Talk Sick Brats @ Mango’s (free!) – The Burden’s new LP is pretty fucking heavy though their LP may not make it in time for the release from what they said on their website. Still look for an interview with these dudes next week.

Acid Mothers Temple, Shilpa Ray and her Happy Hookers, ST37 @ Fitzgerald’s – Oh man, this is quite the psych show. I plan on running by after band rehearsal.

YACHT @ Fitzgerald’s – Catchy Portland indie pop duo downstairs at Fitz.

Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers @ House of Blues – I’m only noting this because everything I posted earlier with a NO!! in the description was so bad that those make Hornsby’s innocuous adult contemporary styling almost palatable. Just sayin’.
