Ben Kweller is just one of those artists I remember from my youth but I never really cared enough to listen. I remember seeing commercials for his debut album “Sha Sha” in 2002 on MTV and kind of assumed he fell off the face of the earth since. However, February saw him release “Go Fly a Kite” and it’s a fairly sophisticated record for someone who rhymed ready with spaghetti. As the almighty Pitchfork rightly pointed out, it has a light, airy, folk sound reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
That didn’t stop them from shitting all over “Go Fly. . .” for sounding too satisfied (what the fuck does that mean?) but all that aside, Kweller will be playing a free set at Cactus Music at 5:30 on Thursday. I’ll recommend this one as homework to anyone who like Ben Folds. This will be Kweller’s second gig at Cactus.
