By Jack Daniel Betz

Houston local and psych blue grass fiddler Hilary Sloan is bringing her talent to Avant Garden for a series of weekly Thursday night performances. Sloan, a seductive performer and established solo artist, has worked with many other Houston musicians including Robert Ellis, Tyagaraja, and the umbrella man.

Playing a wide range of genres and styles, Sloan is a member of experimental Django Reinhardt influenced Houston band I am Mesmer and will be performing alongside some of its members during her Avant Garden gigs. The I am Mesmer collective combines bluegrass, jazz, gypsy, and psychedelic genres to create a dark and immersive brand of instrumental music that is hard to resist.

Members of The Sideshow Tramps and belly dancer ms Yet will also be contributing their talents to Sloan’s shows. Material played will include some of Sloan’s own solo work, improvisational numbers, and even a few I am Mesmer standards.

Each Thursday doors will open at 9 and the show will start at 10. Admission is a suggested 5 dollar donation.
