One of the greatest joys in life is working for a charity. Another is eating. But what happens when you combine the two? Eating for charity.
Houston Restaurant Weeks begins on August 1st and is one of Houston’s most exciting weeks for food-loving philanthropists. Established in 2003 by Cleverley Stone, the event showcases some of Houston’s best restaurants while fundraising for the Houston Food Bank.
Last year 170 restaurants participated by creating multiple course menus specially compiled for this event. Each multi-course dinner costs $35 or $45 per person, lunch goes for $20 per person and brunch ranges from $20 to $35 per person. Each restaurant donates between $3 to $7 per order to the Houston Food Bank. Restaurants will donate based on the number of meals they sell throughout the event, so get eating! The event ends on Sept. 2.
The Houston Food Bank works with three Partner Distribution Organizations- the Brazos Valley Food Bank, the Galveston County Food Bank and the Montgomery County Food Bank. The Houston Food Bank distributes food in the Houston-area and provides food to these smaller Houston food banks in the surrounding area.
The Restaurant Weeks charity is fully organized by volunteers, allowing all profits to go directly to serve the hungry in Houston. Over the years, the event has raised more than $2.9 million for Houston food bank. Prepare to make that number skyrocket- and to indulge in Houston’s finest feasts!
